Transition Period

The child's treatment team will discuss how to best transition the child from their current placement to the adoptive home. The transition period is unique for each child to appropriately meet their needs. The timeline may be dependent on a child's age, significant relationships, transfer of services, etc. As adoptive parents, you may be expected to meet with the child in various settings (e.g. community, foster home, your home) over the course of several weeks or months to develop rapport and trust of the child prior to the transition to your home. If you have other children in your home, they may also be expected to participate in visits.

Please note, if the child is out of state, you will be required to travel to the state at least once and will need to go through the ICPC process.
